Mount Elikonas

This is a mountain of Boeotia with an altitude of 1747 m. The springs of Erkyna River (which crosses Livadia) and Kifissos (which crosses Boeotia and flows into Lake Yliki) can be found here. The higher parts of the mountain are covered with firs and oak trees, and according to mythology, the Muses had their home here. The nine daughters of Zeus and Mnemosyne accompanied Apollo when he was playing music with his lyre and each one of them was the protector of a specific form of art: Erato was the protector of elegy, Euterpe of lyric poetry, Thalia of comedy, Calliope of poetry, Cleo of history, Melpomene of tragedy, Urania of astronomy, Polyhymnia of sacred hymns and Terpsichore of dance.

The villages Agia Anna and Elikonas (aka Zeriki) along with Kyriaki village have a good infrastructure and can be used as a starting point for excursions in the surrounding mountainous area. All three villages are accessed from the road which connects Thiva with Livadia and Arachova.
