Livadia

Livadia is built on the foot of Mount Elikonas, just 140 km. from Athens. Erkyna river crosses through the town endowing it with a magical atmosphere although the entrance to the city does not prepare the visitor for the beauty hidden in every corner of this place. In the picturesque square of Kria, tall trees and lush vegetation create a pleasant, restful shade for visitors, while hiking along the river is a nice and relaxing experience. The stone bridges from the Ottoman era, the watermill, the terraces, the beautiful stone theater of the town and all the traditional buildings become a picturesque background for those who want to walk in the town or just sit and enjoy a cup of coffee or a glass of raki or a delicious meal. The traditional “souvlaki” (=meat on a skewer) is the most famous food of the area. The area of Kria is ideal for climbing, as there are many climbing routes of up to 70 meters height. The history of the place is important, too. The two ancient sources of the river, Lethe and Mnemosyne, were used in ancient times to prepare those who would enter the Oracle of Trofonios to seek answers to their questions.
